Answer
There are laws, policies, and regulations that control nursing practice, such as license, education curriculum, and patient accessibility and supply of health care services. I am aware of the state’s nurse practice act, which outlines several obligatory practice standards as well as the scope of nursing practice in the state. This includes things like clinical certifications, renewal processes and expenses, and the content of education programs that should be taught at nursing schools and universities.
- Licensing: According to the Nurse Practice Act in New York, nurses must adhere to particular licensing requirements. These requirements include meeting educational prerequisites, successfully passing state-mandated examinations, and complying with applicable licensing fees (Boehning et al., 2023)
- Scope of Practice: The Act clearly outlines the scope of practice for different categories of nurses, including Registered Nurses (RNs) and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs). It defines the authorized tasks and responsibilities associated with each role.
- Standards of Care: The Act establishes comprehensive standards of care that nurses are obligated to follow when delivering patient care. These standards cover detailed guidelines for patient assessment, meticulous documentation, and the rigorous maintenance of patient records.
- Continuing Education: Nurses in New York are required to engage in ongoing professional development and continuing education programs. This mandate ensures that nurses uphold their competence and stay current with the latest best practices in the field.
- Regulatory Authority: The New York State Board of Nursing, operating under the New York State Education Department, is the authoritative body responsible for administering and enforcing the Nurse Practice Act. This governing body supervises various aspects of nursing practice, including licensure, disciplinary proceedings, and practice regulations.
- Code of Ethics: The Nurse Practice Act often integrates the American Nurses Association (ANA) Code of Ethics as a guiding principle for ethical nursing practice. This code establishes the ethical standards that nurses must maintain in their professional roles.
Nurses are governed by the nursing practice act of the state in which their practice location is located. The necessity for staffing ratios, which has not been fully enforced due to personnel shortages and paucity of resource
