Many of you have experience in complex adaptive systems whether you realize it or not. Thinking about your current or future practice area, identify an issue or concern. In your initial response, please describe the concern. Does the concern primarily occur at the micro, meso, or macro level? How would you address this issue? What impact might your solution have on the other levels of the system? In what ways could interprofessional collaboration be used to resolve the issue?

Solution:

A key concern in my current practice is staffing issues in which the facility does not adhere to the recommended nurse-to-patient ratio. This is mainly attributed to the shortage of healthcare workers. Studies have reported that optimal nurse-to-patient ratio enhances patient satisfaction, reduces medication errors, and improves safety outcomes by reducing incidents of falls, pressure ulcers as well as healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) (Driscoll et al., 2018).

The issue of staffing occurs at the micro-level as it occurs in all the departments. Most of the units are always complaining of the shortage of staff and how it is impacting the patient outcome. For instance, there has been an increase in the number of patient falls in recent. Even if this issue occurs at the micro-level, the other levels of the healthcare system are also affected.
