Your task for Assignment 1 resembles a real world scenario where you have access to some limited information, and based on your expertise you must produce a document that is accurate, technically solid and useful. It is up to you to decide how to do this.
As you think through the details, you may have many questions and ideas on how to progress. There will be a tension between what could be done and what should be done to improve the approach to assessment. You will also have to consider how to present this information in an effective manner. Think about what should be done, why, who should do it, how and when.
Following are some guiding comments for you to consider.
You may also choose to provide more structure to the report through more sections or sub-sections that you deem help to give clarity and effectiveness to the report. However, this decision must have a positive effect on the purpose of the report, and not merely add to the verbosity through tangential and mildly useful material (e.g., a literature review of commendable depth, but limited applicability).
Report sections
o Introduction
o The introduction will achieve several clear purposes. For example, it will provide a little background such that the reader of the report understands the context and overall purpose of the report. It may also highlight, among other things, the importance of the report.
o Guiding principles of assessment
o One of the purposes of the report should be as a training tool for the intended primary readers of the report and other stakeholders such as teachers. The report will highlight and explain relevant theory which the analysis and conclusions are based on. The rationale provided in this section while help other education professionals to understand why the conclusions are relevant.
o Suitability of assessment processes for purpose
o The analysis should focus on those parts of the target scenario that you have identified as areas requiring critical change. The discussion should draw out why this is so, and what can be done about it.
o Another issue to consider here is practicality. You may come to the conclusion that the approach of the client is a disaster, with many areas of concern. The analysis will need to devise a practical strategy to deal with this.
o The analysis may also identify holes in the information matrix where effective analysis can only be done to a limited level. The report will need to develop a strategy to deal with this.
o Recommendations
o You will need to give great thought to the structure and content of this section. Consider that you will be providing recommendations that are actually implementable and will result in maximum benefit for the client. This means you will need to consider the level of detail such that the who, what, when etc. of the recommendations is as practical and useful as possible.
