Overview:
The purpose of this persuasive speech assignment is to change your audience’s attitudes, actions, or beliefs about a product of your choice. In this persuasive speech, you are not only helping your audience understand your product, but you are also changing the way that they think, what they feel, or what they do.
For this assignment, the purpose of your persuasive speech is to advertise an existing product (e.g. Coca Cola, Pepsi, Nike, Sketchers, Head and Shoulders, etc.). Your ad should be aimed at a specific audience (e.g. college students, women, men, children, senior citizens, etc.).
When selecting a product for your persuasive speech, you should begin by asking yourself a series of questions about each product that you consider:
After selecting a product, you should develop a specific purpose and thesis statement for your persuasive speech. Research: For this speech, you will need to conduct outside research. You should consult a variety of sources, such as newspaper articles, magazines, peer-reviewed academic journals, books, and websites. You should include an APA/MLA format references page with your outline. During your speech, you should orally cite at least 3 different sources, using the same format that I gave you a handout on and also explained in class when I was going over the instructions for the informative speech. Please note: your sources MUST support your arguments. I do not want you to merely cite sources for the sake of citing sources, but to rather cite sources ONLY to support your arguments Persuasive Speech Outline: Three Arguments Format
