Portable NDT Kit
Your assignment is to design and equip a portable NDT kit for on¬site investigation of your chosen industry. If you are not able to decide the industry, then you should base it on a large petroleum company with production sites throughout Middle East. These sites generally contain such equipment as pumps, valves, pipelines, and storage tanks, which occasionally experience failure under both normal and abnormal production conditions. Much of this equipment is large and cumbersome. Therefore, the inspector must frequently travel to the site investigate failure or fitness for service.
The primary objectives of the NDT kit are to inspect the site, collect information, and generate a record of the fitness for service of components/plants.
The portable NDT kit should take the form of a suitcase (trolley type) that could be stored in your office. When the need arises the inspector could simply pick up the kit and be on the next flight to that location.
1. The equipment container is restricted to the size of a typical suitcase and must be carried by a single individual (weight < 20 kg). Moreover, you are being asked to purchase and equip the case for less than OMR 25,000. (It is hoped that your case can be duplicated and distributed to other individuals throughout the corporation). With these constraints, develop a list of the items that you would include in your case. For each item, discuss briefly: a description of the item, its intended use or uses, and justification of the cost if over OMR 3000), the weight (if over 5 kg), and size (if it occupies over 20% of the suitcase).

2. The site has recently acquired structural components made from polymer composite materials. If additional funds were provided to upgrade your portable failure analysis kit, with the weight restriction lifted up to 30 kg, what additional or upgraded items would you include, taking into account the composite material structures? Discuss with full justification.
