➢ Step 1: Literature Review You must first provide a brief literature review (overview of existing social science research) on your group. You may use any readings we have done in class that address your group. Most likely, you will have to find additional research through the library. What does this research say about the gender experiences of your group? Provide a bibliography of this research and be sure to cite throughout paper when using. Be sure to use at least 3 scholarly sources. Please use ASA citation format
➢ Step 2: Analysis Considering your own artifacts, are there any patterns (things you see again and again) in how the gender of your group is represented in American culture? Clearly describe these patterns.
➢ Step 3: Discussion and Conclusion Given the patterns you’ve found, discuss how gender is constructed for your particular group.
• Do you believe the construction of gender for your group is consistent with dominant norms of gender in the United States? If so, why? If not, why not? What role does the particular social location of your group (the particular race/ethnicity, class, culture, sexuality, etc) play in this construction? (You must support your argument by drawing on the items in your collection. In the case that you have had a particularly difficult time finding artifacts for your group, why do you think this is the case? What does the lack of representation about this group in American society say about the social and gender status of this group?)
• Relate what you have found about the gender of your group(homosexuals) to what your literature review (what you found in step 1) says about the gender of your group. Are your findings consistent with what the literature says? Alternatively, do they contradict what the literature says?
• Finally, reexamine the initial assessment you made of your group in Essay 1. You must state whether your assessment has changed or remained the same.
The goal is to present a logical, convincing argument. Also, make sure you use sociological language and concepts.
NOTE: The artifacts and drawing mentioned above are referenced from the previous essay which I will upload as additional files in my account
