These definitions may also be helpful in understanding the assignment:
Context: This means what was going on culturally, historically and politically that may have influenced the style and themes that developed during the time. This could include key ideas or philosophies influencing artists, other artists and art movements that have been influential, major historical events, social and political issues or aspects of the artists’ geographic location.
The context points I am looking for you to address, are any that had an impact on the style of art that emerged (be it the artists’ choice of themes or the way they were making art at the time)
Style: This means the physical aspects of the work. The artists’ use of color, shape, and line. The medium and materials used as well as the themes addressed.

Choose ONE of the above images to discuss for your second significance essay. (make sure it is an image that will make for a good comparison with your first image selection)
Identify the image (artist, title, art movement, date) and discuss why it is an important example of a work from the time period when it was made. Your response should be no more than a few paragraphs.

PART III: Comparison (20 points)
Now that you have discussed each image separately, please compare and contrast the two images you discussed for your significance essays. You should compare and contrast the images you selected for Part I and Part II.
Consider basic formal differences (such as mediums and materials used, color, shape, line, etc.)
Consider any relevant similarities and/or differences in the artists’ beliefs and goals.
If the historical period is significantly similar or different, discuss that as well.
