I think in today’s society, most people won’t view someone who’s gay/lesbian that much differently than any other straight person on the street. Although, the challenges of adjustment they are likely to encounter depends on their situation. Are they in high school or college? Out of college and viewed as a “real world adult”? In high school you definitely have the problem of people poking fun at you because they don’t understand why that person loves the same sex, or they’ve been brought up to frown upon those “types” of people, and are too young to know that they can think for themselves. In college, I feel there are a very little amount of people who wound actually speak their mind about why they don’t like gays, and many more who would express why they enjoy that the person is being themselves. Again, it all really depends on the persons situation in life. The location of where someone may live can also effect how hard they’re adjustment into society may be or not.

No matter how much time goes by there are always going to be people that are uncomfortable around gay males and lesbians but I think in today’s society it is a lot easier for someone to be proud of being gay rather than scared. I think that gays and lesbians have a harder time coming out to their parents than anything. They are scared that if they come out to their parents it might make them love their children less. But all in all I think it is pretty easy for gay male and lesbians in today’s society.
